Phlebotomy Certification Requirements for Idaho

Idaho doesn’t require certification for phlebotomists. But if you want to become a licensed phlebotomy technician in Idaho, here are some requirements:

  • Complete a 3 to 6 month training program at an accredited institution like Phlebotomy Training Specialists.
  • Seek certification through any recognized phlebotomy licensing agency. These agencies include the National Phlebotomy Association (NPA), American Society of Phlebotomy Technicians, or the American Medical Technologists. Students will need to pass a national certification exam to complete the certification process.
  • Have a strong knowledge of blood collection, lab processes, and basic computer skills. Additionally, you must have good communication skills, be empathetic, and be able to work with different types of people.
  • You must be 18 years of age or older and pass a background check.

After finishing your training, you can register for the national certification exam. The exam consists of both a written and practical component, and you must pass both parts to receive your certification.

Once you have passed the exam, you must renew your certification every two years by completing continuing education credits. With a valid certification, you will be able to work as a phlebotomist in Idaho.
