Oklahoma Phlebotomy Certification Requirements

You need to be a minimum of 18 years old in most locations. In addition, you must hold a High School Diploma (or equivalent) to register for PTS classes. You’re not required to have any prior medical or phlebotomy knowledge.

 

A healthcare worker who is unlicensed and doing phlebotomy procedures in Oklahoma needs to meet the state requirements for phlebotomy certification. People in this category can meet the requirements by:

 

  • Have received documented training during the last three years that meets or exceeds the standards listed in Section 5. And the person is referred to a certified Phlebotomist.
  • Hasn’t had equivalent training and have been allowed a 12-month grace period where they must fulfill the minimum required training.  During this time they may receive Phlebotomy certification from an approved provider by either:
    • Completing the certification program and Phlebotomy training of an approved provider.
    • Being permitted to challenge the clinical required training and written examination of an approved provider.

 

People who are unlicensed but complete the certification exam with passing scores will be granted a Phlebotomy certification. If all of these requirements are met, they will be considered a certified phlebotomy technician.
